Students and activists have constructed the G20 Artspace at Carnegie Mellon University, under the premise that the G20 Summit, an undemocratic, vague, and non-transparent meeting of world leaders, must be questioned. The G20 summit is taking place in Pittsburgh, September 24th and 25th, and builders of the Artspace have been preparing by constructing and living in a shanty, located at Fence in the middle of Carnegie Mellon's campus.

The project is an opportunity to create a non-politcal space in which anyone can collaborate. Builders create improvised structures, measuring nothing, intuiting everything. The goal is to make reference to shanties and places in the world where culture is improvised, but also to the relative political poverty the collective unheard experience everyday, and especially during times of prestigious meetings.

The Artspace exists to create a safe space for coherent dialogue relevant to the G20 - the builders invite everyone to help evolve the structure. Workshops, theatrical performances, and film screenings will be held at the space during the week of the G20 summit. The space will be on CMU's campus for the week of the G20, until Sunday.
